You should have received your invitation to the 2017 Mardi Gras Ball-SBA Zydeco Night is the theme.
The ball is Saturday, January 28 at the Scott Event Center with colors red, black and silver.
Along with the invitation will be the order form for food and drink orders from Fezzo's. The deadline is January 18, 2017.
All food and drink orders must be placed with Fezzo's. New this year be the ability to order limited additional food orders
in addition to the open bar the night of the ball. No outside food or drinks are allowed. The form is asking that you include your company name.
It is key to preorder as it gives you the certainty of having what your ordered at your table when you arrive at the ball
and not have to stand in line to order! ! !
In addition each SBA member is allowed 2 seats PER MEMBERSHIP for free. You may purchase an additional 2 seats at $25.00 total cost per membership.
Tables are round with 8 seats or rectangular with 10 seats so many members like to share the table with another business member of their choice.
A form has been included for you to indicate if you want to bring a couple and if you wish to share a table with a particular business member.
This is important when preparing the room to be certain we have seating for all who have responded.
We also want to accommodate members who want to share a table when possible.
The deadline for this is also January 18, 2017.
    GET READY TO HAVE A GREAT TIME! ! ! ! !
    Thank you,
    Carolyn

Dear SBA Members, This is your opportunity to be part of gifting 3 exceptional high school graduates with a scholarship. SBA holds yearly
a raffle ticket sale to secure the funds - think about it... you/your company buy or sale a book of tickets at $5 per ticket = $50 (10 tickets per book)
times the SBA membership and that could mean a huge scholarship for these students. (It only takes 60 books to sale and make $3,000 for these scholarships).
This year (2015) SBA gave $1,000 to three deserving students - the winners were: Kami Smith, Kealy Stelly, & Chelsea Noel.
Be part of this exciting time - call for a book or several books of tickets.
PLUS, your participation in creating the gift basket is needed - gift certificates or gift of your choice (remember to shop Scott for that gift certificate
if your company does not have one to offer).
Please call Cherie Gautreaux at 337-581-0464 or stop by Gautreaux's Donuts on Wed. or Thurs. morning to see Cherie. OR call Tonya Carola 337-257-1066 and she can help you out.
These scholarships are coveted by these young people - we are already getting calls for 2016 scholarship offerings. Remember, the students are recognized
from Acadiana High School, Carencro High School, and a student that is home schooled or attends a school of choice (resident of Scott).
Let's work hard to match what SBA did last year for the students, Thank You.

    SFD Board Member Openings
    Ladies and Gentlemen,
Members of the Scott Fire Department Board of Directors have an important responsibility,
providing residents with the best fire protection funding will allow. As history would dictate,
they have been doing a great job, providing the City of Scott with a Classification of 3 (best for any volunteer department in the Parish,
and top 5% for all volunteer departments in the Country).
There are two, possibly three, vacancies on the Board, needing to be filled. These members have done an exceptional job for our great City,
however their obligations to their career and family life have increased, making it difficult to contribute to SFD.
A few examples of Board Members responsibilities are to work with the Fire Chief to:
-To make an annual estimate of the... expense for carrying out such program
-To manage and conduct the business affairs of the department
-To purchase firefighting and rescue equipment, supplies, and other real or personal property as necessary . . . to carry out the general
fire protection and rescue program of the department.
As a member of SBA, you obviously take pride in our great city. If you are interested in assisting SFD, by providing the best possible fire protection,
not only to your business, but all businesses in the area, please assist by becoming an SFD Board Member.
We meet once, every other month, at 19:00 to conduct business at the Lions Club Fire Station.
If you are interested, please be at the August 10, 2015 at 19:00, at the Lions Club Fire Station.
If you have any questions regarding this, or any other matter, feel free to contact me at 337-322-9955.

My name is Katherine Laborde and I am a teacher at Scott Middle School. The Daily Advertiser has sponsored a program each year to supply teachers
with school supplies for their classrooms. (The link at the bottom of this email is the newspaper article about it.)
There are several teachers from Scott's area schools that are on the list. I thought how fitting for Scott area businesses to adopt their very own teachers.
What I'm asking of you is to make these businesses aware of this program and the need in their community. If you can advise me on how to get the word out
and if there is anything you could help me with.
I thank you in advance for your time and your help.

Every five years, the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) evaluates fire departments throughout Louisiana in terms of fire protection capabilities,
for the purpose of establishing insurance premiums. During the last evaluation of PIAL, conducted on March 24, 2011, the Scott Fire Department
received 23.10 (maximum of 35) for "Credit for the Water System," which reviews main capacity and hydrant distribution. Scott Fire and Elected officials immediately
prioritized improving our aging underground infrastructure. On March 31, 2015, Governor Jindal awarded the City of Scott $467,000, through the Louisiana Community
Development Block Grant, to upgrade the water distribution system within the City. During the May 7, 2015 Council Meeting, City Officials unanimously approved
Resolution #2015-3, a resolution granting the authority to Mayor Purvis J. Morrison to sign and submit all necessary documents along with adopting certain policies,
plans & procedures in connection with the Community Development Block Grant Program for water system improvements project. This project will improve water distribution
system, in addition to improving fire protection within the city, at minimal cost to our citizens.
This is yet another example of how emergency officials and elected officials work together to provide the best quality of life for the people we serve.

    CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERs ! ! ! ! ! !
The SBA Parade is right around the corner, Sunday February 8th so we are looking for volunteers.
We are in need of "walkers" and "spotters."
The walkers would either wear the courier de mardi gras costume and walk in the front of the parade or walk alongside the cars for Miss Scott and Jr. Miss Scott.
Lots of fun along the parade route either way. The spotters are needed at strategic spots along the parade route.
The spotter will have an orange vest that indicates SBA personnel. You are asked to watch for float infractions and report to police.
You will have cell phone numbers to contact as well as we will have your cell phone number.
This helps keep the "family friendly" parade we all work so hard to maintain. All volunteers would be included in a meeting shortly before the parade to answer
any questions and determine position in parade. It is rewarding to be a part of this great parade we are famous for! ! ! ! ! !

  • (11/16/12) DOTD announces start of construction for Scott roundabout
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that starting Monday, November 19, work will begin on the $2.3 million project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of La. 93 and La. 3168 in Lafayette Parish.

"The Scott roundabout project is another example of DOTD’s commitment to safety," said DOTD District 03 Administrator, William Oliver. "Since roundabouts operate at a lower speed, they help to improve safety through elimination of the more severe crashes."

Serving more than 11,000 cars per day, La. 93 serves as a direct connection to Interstate 10 and is a vital corridor to tourism and hospitality related industries in the city of Scott.

On Monday, motorists can expect some flagging operations associated with shoulder work along La. 93 in the vicinity of the I-10 eastbound on-ramp. As construction progresses motorists can also expect daily lane closures. DOTD will keep the public informed of all detours.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life. In addition to more than 16,600 miles of roadway, including 890 miles of interstate, DOTD supports the development of the state’s aviation, marine and rail infrastructures. Through this work, the department is able to facilitate economic development, create job opportunities, improve vital evacuation routes, and make critical freight corridors safer and more efficient.

For more information, please visit www.dotd.la.gov, email dotdcs@la.gov, or call DOTD’s Custom Service Center at (225) 379-1232 or 1-877-4LADOTD (1-877-452-3683). Business hours are 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • (8/8/12) Annual Raffle

Scott Business Association is considering an annual raffle fundraiser. Proceeds of this raffle would benefit SBA Scholarship Fund and Mardi Gras functions, but also give one lucky winner a GREAT chance to shop Scott. Each SBA member would have the opportunity to participate by donating two gift certificates from their business worth $25.00 to $ 50.00. The gift certificate amount(s) are determined by the SBA member. The selling price for raffle ticket would be $5.00. At present time SBA has 161 members. An awesome goal would be for each member to sell at least 10 tickets. Their will be a 1st & 2nd place winners of this event. The winners could walk away with a GREAT SCOTT!! Shopping Spree with all gifts certificates of the participating Scott businesses.

The lucky winning tickets would be drawn at the Business Appreciation Banquet in October. If your business does not allow you to give a product or service you can sponsor gifts certificates from other Scott Business Association members. If your business is interested in participating in this fundraiser please contact
